Belgian and Dutch forward air controllers (FACs) and French, German and U.S. pilots are exercising in Elsenborn, Belgium on 7-11 February.
Belgian Defense photoExercise Ringo Range 5/21 involves guiding pilots flying their aircraft at a speed of 400 knots at an altitude of 9,000 feet to successfully hit hidden targets and doing so only with the aid of maps and terrain reference points. The tactical exercise is being used as a refresher course for experienced FACs as well as to qualify new FACs.
Belgian FACs are trained at the Dutch FAC school in Schaarsbergen, close to Arnhem, and their Dutch colleagues regularly exercise in Belgium.
