As part of efforts to fast-track development of advanced features intended to further reduce environmental impact, Boeing has revealed plans to fly a specially modified 737 'ecoDemonstrator' in 2012.
The aircraft will be used to test and demonstrate a wide range of improvements ranging from a low emissions APU to an adaptive trailing edge, and will dovetail with on-going NASA and FAA environmental efforts such as the Environmentally Responsible Aviation and Continuous Lower Energy and Emissions (CLEEN) programs. More details to follow.
