Jetstar Says No News From Boeing on 787

Jetstar has received no official word from Boeing on whether there will be a further delay to the 787 program, Jetstar CEO for Australia and New Zealand, David Hall, told Aviation Week yesterday on the sidelines of an event at Singapore Changi Airport to promote Jetstar’s inaugural nonstop flight from Melbourne to Singapore.
Hall says Jetstar is still hoping to receive its first 787 in mid-2012, as scheduled. If there is a further delay to the 787 program, then it could lead Jetstar and other carriers to seek Airbus A330s for interim lift.
Jetstar has eight A330s, with a ninth coming in March, when it launches its Auckland-Singapore service, and it expects two more in 2011, says a Jetstar spokesman.
Hall declines to say if Jetstar will be seeking more A330s on lease and says the decision also depends on how much the market for air travel grows.
Jetstar has been busy, too, growing its short-haul operation, by taking delivery of Airbus A320s on order.
The carrier's A320s are powered by International Aero Engine IAE V2500s. When asked if Jetstar is considering the AirbusNEO, Hall says, “We have a good relationship with IAE, so we are not considering the NEO.”
The NEO involves using either CFM International CFM LEAP-X or Pratt & Whitney GTF engines. IAE is not part of the NEO program because its partners were unable to reach an agreement.
