SIA A380 Grounded After Wire Burning Incident

Singapore Airlines has grounded one of its Airbus A380s following the discovery of burnt wires in one of the cargo holds.
The aircraft, registered as 9V-SKD, operated flight SQ861 from Hong Kong to Singapore on January 31 and was on approach to Singapore when crew detected the smell of smoke in a lavatory. After landing in Singapore, the ground crews found “signs of burns to electrical wiring in the forward cargo hold below the lavatory”, Singapore Airlines stated.
Airbus and the airline are now investigating the incident and have temporarily grounded the affected aircraft. The airline’s other ten A380s continue to fly, but they are also being inspected in the same area “as a precautionary measure.”
9V-SKD was delivered to Singapore Airlines in April 2008 as the carrier’s fourth A380.
