Vueling First In Iberia Barcelona Hangar

A Vueling Airbus A320 is the first aircraft being maintained in Iberia’s new hangar at Barcelona El Prat Airport in Spain. Iberia Maintenance started the aircraft’s C check on Nov. 23 and expects to complete the work, which includes inspecting the airframe interiors, mechanical and avionics systems, in 10 days. The new 12,100-sq.-meter hangar can accommodate either two Airbus A340 size aircraft or four Airbus A320s. About half of the 40 technicians working at the El Prat facility come from the airline’s operations in Madrid; 21 are new employees. In the next two years, Iberia expects staffing to increase to 150-200 people. Iberia Maintenance has a 75% equity stake in the hangar and Barcelona Freeport Authority invested the other 25%.
